IPA Help is a tool for exploring and hearing the sounds of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). It’s designed for linguists, educators, language learners, and others who work with the sounds of human language. The tool features clickable IPA charts with accurate recordings and phonetic descriptions for each symbol.

The most up-to-date and accessible version is the web-based IPA Help. This browser-based version works across devices and provides these helpful features:

  • Interactive chart – Click any IPA symbol to hear its sound.
  • Audio from phoneticians – High-quality recordings provide accurate examples.
  • No installation needed – Works directly in modern web browsers on any device.

This is the best version for most users.

Use the Downloadable Version (IPA Help 2.1)

An older, offline version is available as a Windows download. This standalone version includes the same interactive IPA chart and recorded sounds, but:

  • Is no longer updated – This version is stable but no longer maintained.
  • Has a dated interface – Less modern than the web version.

This version may still be helpful in offline or restricted environments, but the web version is strongly recommended.
